It began with one machine and a father’s word. In 1992 Philip Vermeulen started Buffalo Excavators on a simple belief: do the job properly and people will remember you. In 1996 his daughter, Nelani Kaiser, took the keys and the promise that came with them, and grew it into Inyathi, the Xhosa word for buffalo: strong, steady, and never far from the people who depend on it.

From Macassar, our modern fleet, mostly our own, now works across both Cape provinces, standing beside clients like Transnet and Lafarge. Every machine that leaves our gate carries the same name, and the same standard, Philip built his reputation on.

In 2017 our director, Nelani Kaiser, was named Entrepreneur of the Year for the Eastern Cape, an honour she has always shared with the operators, workshop hands and clients who make the work possible.
